A lot of you have been asking about longer Big Man Outdoors videos and if you can expect them any time soon. Well, I’m here to hopefully shine a little light on what’s going on.

In my last post I mentioned that I started using Vimeo instead of YouTube for my videos. Vimeo offers some other features that I really like. One of them is the option to sell my videos with their Vimeo On Demand service as well as setup a subscription based service for all my content.

I know what you’re thinking right now but let me try and explain a little bit.

I used to make hour long outdoors videos and upload them to YouTube because I enjoyed it. Uploading large 4K UHD files wasn’t an issue because my internet speed was so fast in Arizona. After the move to Montana, however, my upload speed is 0.76mb (on a good day) and it’s nearly impossible to upload anything that size. It’s difficult enough to send my audio files for my voice work. Realizing that I wouldn’t be able to make the videos that I used to make, I decided on making short 1 minute videos that I could post on Instagram. It wouldn’t take more than 40 minutes or so to upload and I still got to create something. I really enjoyed making them and people told me they really enjoyed watching them. Naturally, just as I was getting more and more inspired to make videos on Instagram, they disable my account for impersonating myself. I mentioned this in my last post so I won’t go over the details. Suffice it to say, I needed to find another way to create and upload my videos. Hence, my return to Facebook.

Since Facebook allows for longer videos to be uploaded, I began taking advantage of that. I started taking my laptop into the city to upload them on a much faster wifi. It made me realize that I can still create videos the way I used to. I don’t think I’ll be making them an hour long anymore but 20-30 minutes would be just fine. I figured that if I’m going to do it, I’d better make them the best I can. So, I made the switch from YouTube to Vimeo to focus on quality and I also upgraded my camera and audio equipment. Check out the pictures below that were taken on the new camera.

I’ve decided that I’m going to make 1 minute videos that will be a watered down version of the full length videos. Think of them like movie trailers. The longer video will be available to watch for only $1 through Vimeo On Demand. If you’re not the type of person to pay for a video, then you get to enjoy a 1 minute video similar to how it was on Instagram. If 20 people watch the longer video, that’s $18 (Vimeo takes 10%) that I can use for Vimeo’s hosting service since it’s not free. Most people that upload their videos to YouTube want views so they can get their ad revenue. Well, Vimeo doesn’t have ads. Vimeo also doesn’t have any trolls on there and the community is pretty awesome.

Either way, if you watch the 1 minute videos or the 30 minute videos, I appreciate you checking it out.

In addition to the prerecorded videos, I’ve also decided to live stream content if the circumstances permit. More on that later!
